Depthcharge is a single-player arcade game released in 1977 by Gremlin Industries for the Sega VIC Dual system board. Taito licensed the game and released it as Sub Hunter in Japan. The game, which uses a black-and-white CRT display, presents the player with a cut-away view of a section of ocean, on the surface of which is a destroyer with submarines passing beneath it. The player drops depth charges (up to six at a time) to destroy the submarines and moves the ship back and forth in order to avoid the submarines' mines. Up to four submarines may be present at any given time, each of which bears a score for destroying it that increases with its depth.

It doesn't have to be complicated to be good.
Same basic game that will challenge you increasingly in each round. Recommend enlarged screen. No sound but unneeded. Timed play with "Overtime" for a bonus. If sunk, you lose half your points so try to stay afloat! Still good fun after all these years, even w/graphics that remind me of Pong. Works well on GC but Fire/WaterFox run too quickly to be enjoyable.
Controls: (Wish more folks would include for keyboard, but these are simple as they come.)
Start == 5
Direction == Arrow Keys (L & R)
Fire Depth Charge == Ctrl for left side, Alt for right
Pause == P. Does NOT really work. Not to be trusted.
Thanks Internet Archive for another classic!
BTW - My hi score is 3090, 2nd 2970, 3rd 2880, 4th 2790. I'm only counting the highest in 100 increment levels yet haven't gotten over 3000 but that once. Let me know how you do, please. UPDATE: HS = 3120, 3110 & 4 in the 3K range. This game is a bit adaptive to playing strategies & once I figured out a better method, it took about 15-20 games for it to catch up! UPDT: HS = 3390(2X), 3330, 3310, 3270(5X)... UPDT: HS = 3440(YAY!), 3390(2X), 3380, 3350...
UPDT: HS = 3650,3570,3540,3520(3X),3510,3500(3X)...
Highest # sub kills = 53 (2X) - both for 2 highest scores
